Starfrost Adhesive

StarFrost® Adhesive Slides

Our slides are based on the fundamental research work and tests of Dr. Stöcker. Our special surface treatment with silane-coating forms permanent, free polar bonds on the surface, which also through electrostatic attraction ensures cell-and-tissue-adhesion and supports the forming of covalent bonds between the tissue and the glass surface.
Tissue and cell substrates stick rapidly on our StarFrost® adhesive slides without using further adhesives or protein coating media. This saves costly and time consuming preparation-techniques.

In the meantime, KNITTEL StarFrost® adhesive slides have proved themselves a million times and came out on top as a real alternative for cell-adhesion, e.g. on tissues, formalin-fixed and paraffin sections.

StarFrost® adhesive slides are manufactured exclusively at our main facility in Braunschweig (Germany) in large batches using the latest modern production lines, which have been developed and built by KNITTEL. The advantage of our StarFrost® adhesive slides is the restriction of the adhesive coating to the top surface of our slides and therefore to the usable area only. On our adhesive slides the under side is untreated therefore the slides do not tend to stick when stacked or transported as with other competitive products and difficulties with marking are also avoided.

StarFrost® dhesive slides do not show striae and disturbing background colouration such as the blue or red background obtained with Haematoxylin and Eosin-staining of tissues on Albumin coated glass, or the brown background obtained during the Immunoperoxidase or In-situ-DNS-Hybridisation process. During these procedures our adhesive slides allow stronger enzyme-induction without losing the tissue.

StarFrost Advanced Adhesive – hydrophilic

slides are especially developped for IHC (Immunohistochemistry) and harsher applications. These slides show stronger adherence characteristics and cover a broad range of applications. No tissue falling off issues anymore.

The quality of the coating has been tested through several cancer research labs and with different equipment, i.e. Ventana Discovery XT/Benchmark and Leica Bond-Max.

Pls send us an email fabio.insalata@knittelglass.com and we will be happy to send you free samples together with a short documentation of a Vimentin staining with a Ventana Discovery XT systems from the cancer research institute, Indivumed GmbH in Hamburg Germany (http://www.indivumed.com).

StarFrost® Polycat

Polycat slides have been developed for research in anatomy, cell-immunology, molecular biology and surgical molecular-pathology.

StarFrost® adhesive-polycat slides are coated like as our StarFrost® adhesive slides, but on a single-side in their predetermined area with Poly-L-Lysin, effecting a higher concentration of positive amino-groups. The action of StarFrost® adhesive-polycat slides on frozen tissue is based on electrostatical and chemical attractions, e.g. formalin fixed tissues, paraffin embedded tissues, cyto-centrifuged substrates and cytological smears with alcohol fixed tissues or non cross-bound fixed tissues of plants, animals or humans.

StarFrost® Aadhesive-polycat slides are especially suitable to attract and stick striped- or cell-cultures. Furthermore, polycat slides are less sensitive to chemicals, enzyme-inhibitation or to heating (<65°C) and are therefore more applicable for immuno-cyto-chemical molecular-hybridisation arrays. The tissue sticks automatically on StarFrost® adhesive-polycat slides, independent of fixation and not by covalent bonds.
Even during multiple staining processes these cytological substrates do not peel off. Also, floating-off of tissues during longer in-situ-DNS-hybridisation techniques and Immuno-cyto-chemical methods no longer occurs.
